I just found this blog and am enjoying it very much! I'm going to link to it on my blog, www.AnyShinyThing.com, which is about boomer life. Rosemarie, I moved to a 55+ community a few years ago. My husband and I were retired and lonely, and since he is older than me, it seemed like a good way to plan for the future, too. I don't know if that's an option for you. I like it because I can be as social or isolated as I choose.

Also, I recommend "The Friendship Crisis" by Marla Paul (http://www.amazon.com/Friendship-Crisis-Finding-Keeping-Friends/dp/1579547451). You'll find making friends in midlife is a lot like dating! I hope this helps.

Rosemarie- (beautiful name by the way..was my wonderful sister-in-law's) I do not think you are alone. According to this article half the women you know should be single..could you be overlooking anyone? Also if that is true maybe you can explore new ways to meet more women close to your age such as by going to places you like to go even by yourself, and looking for new women friends to meet! Don't feel alone..take charge!!

I'd just like a little reassurance that I'm not the only 50+ female in the entire world who isn't married or in an exclusive relationship. I work full-time, yet my social life is almost nil, since everyone I know seems to be attached. Okay, my kids aren't the greatest; they're busy w/their own lives, I love my 2 grandkids to pieces, yet there's a connection missing w/women in like circumstances (SINGLE!!). It seems men in this age group are looking for 20-something silicone goddesses, not mature women, and don't even say the word, "cougar". Those young studs are NOT looking for women like me. I gave up looking long ago; even my ex- talks about his ailments constantly.
Anyone else out there care to add to this?? Would love to know I'm not the last dinosaur alive :-)
