This latest talk in the continuing series on feminine power by Sally Kempton, author of The Heart of Meditation: Pathways to a Deeper Spirit is particularly relevant for women in their middle years. She speaks exactly to the attributes of the Guardian stage we inhabit as authenticity, integrity, confidence, and talking to truth to power become more important than deference, or seeking not to offend. Sally is a down-to-earth embodiment of the guardian as a spiritual teacher and meditation guide who integrates yogic philosophy with daily life. From the introduction to the podcast, which you can access here: “As women move toward self-empowerment, we’re often called to access our own fierceness: a strength that can break through barriers and express love without limits. Many women confuse this overt strength with the masculine, or fear its negative expressions of bitchiness and self-sabotage. When fully conscious, however, these energies can help us uncover our greatest power, open us to the grace of our wild side, and kindle deep, transpersonal love. This discussion with Sally Kempton will focus on the qualities of the fierce feminine, using archetypal images from Kali, the Hindu goddess of eternal energy, to Sasha Fierce (R&B singer Beyonce Knowles’s sensual, aggressive alter-ego).
We’ll discuss what it means to face into our own fierceness–its opportunities and pitfalls–and what individual women need to do to find and harness these timeless energies of transformative potential.
Sally Durgananda Kempton is a teacher of inner yoga, trained in the non-dual traditions of Hindu wisdom. Her classes and trainings offer a deep transmission of heart-based spaciousness. She is known for her ability to convey esoteric tantric teachings with an acute sense of the psychological and practical challenges of contemporary life. She also writes the popular Wisdom column for Yoga Journal
